Harpazo again!

18th October 2006

Hi Guys,

I guess some times we believe what we want to believe; what we wish to be true.

But as our hearts are being opened to the truth of His word - we will continually challenge our thoughts against the Word every time. Let us not be afraid of truth. Afraid to look weird in the eyes of others, afraid we won't 'fit in' - each one's race is different.

In the ancient Greek Olympics, it wasn't the fastest that won, it was the  one who finished the crossing line first with his torch still burning!

To this end, we will look again at 'harpazo' that I mentioned in the 2nd coming article.

Remember it's a greek word that means 'seize'.

It's been translated in the king james as: force,  catcheth away,  catcheth,  pluck,  caught away,  caught up,  pulling.

Seize: take hold of forcibly/suddenly.

Let's substitute 'seize'  for every occurence of the word 'harpazo' in the new testament. There are 13 occurrences. There are other greek words used for the the same english words above as well in the King James. We are just sticking to harpazo. So don't get confused if you see 'pluck' somewhere else.

Matt 11:12 ....and the violent take it by seizing.

Matt 13:19... then cometh the wicked one and seizes that which was sown in his heart....

John 6:15...they would come and take Him by seizing (him) to make Him king....

John 10:12... and the wolf cometh seizes them and scattereth the sheep.

John 10:28... neither shall any seize them out of my hand.

John 10:29... and no man is able to seize them out of my Father's hand.

Acts 8:39... the Spirit of God seized Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more...

Acts 23:10... commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by seizing (him) from among them...

2 Cor 12:2 .... such a one was seized to the 3rd heaven.

2 Cor 12:4... How that he was seized into paradise and heard unspeakable....

1 Thess 4:17... Then we which are alive shall be seized together with them in the clouds....

Jude 23... And others save with fear, seizing them out of the fire...

Rev 12:5....and the child was seized unto God and His throne

We start with Rev 12
The context tells us the event was in heaven. The woman delivers in heaven and the child is seized to God's throne. She is later given wings and flies to the wilderness on earth to her safe place (Vs 12-14).
The child has not left heaven.

Jude 23
The spirit is seized from the fire, the person is still on earth.

1 Thess 4
Our spirits are seized together with the sleeping saints with Jesus in the air (our atmosphere). But they (the sleeping saints) are coming down to earth, not going back to heaven (1 Thess 4:14, Rev 19:11-16).
The living saints are still on earth and their bodies then glorified (1Cor 15:52).

2 Cor 12
Paul didn't know if it was out or in the body. But the man was still on earth after the experience.

Acts 23
Paul was seized on earth by soldiers from the Jews.

Acts 8
Philip was seized, transported to another town but remained on earth.

John 10:28, 29
No one can seize anyone in Christ on earth from God.

John 10:13
The wolf seizes them on earth.

John 6:15
They try to seize Him while on earth to become a physical king.

Matt 13:19
The word is seized from the hearer while on earth.

Matt 11:12
The violent try to seize the kingdom while on earth.

In all the verses, no-one is leaving, even Rev 12 where the birth is in heaven. The word just means 'seize'. 'Doing it forcefully'. It doesn't mean anything else.

Don't know if it can be any clearer. Search and see. My hurt cries for us to know this.

I guess we are here for the long-haul except we die and go to be with the Lord.

Our Lord prayed , 'Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven', 'Pray that You should not take them out of the world '  -John 17:15.  So why should we be saying anything different?

Heaven doesn't need us to be flitting around there for several years. There's work to be done here and now. Prayers to be made, lives to be healed, lights to be shone at work and home.

Our blessed hope is a body of glory and ruling with Christ on earth, not in heaven. Heaven comes down to earth.

We say, 'Does it really matter if this is true or not?'

I think it helps us to look at things around us very differently. We won't be looking to escape anymore. But 'occupy till He comes'.

Stay blessed in Him,

Tony A.
